About TARGET

Teaching And Reaching Gaining Excellence Together (TARGET) is an after-school program for 30 youth participants, ages 5–10, residing in the Laurel Gardens Housing Community in Danbury and a limited number of other children in need of an after- school program. In cooperation with Pembroke Elementary School, the TARGET program operates on-site two days a week 2:30–5:30 P.M. It also runs during daytime hours in the summer when school is not in session.

Program Objective

TARGET provides to its participants the benefits of an after school program – keeping youth safe during the after-school hours – as well as providing a healthy lifestyle curriculum based on evidence-based best practices.  The program offers a safe and nurturing environment to develop positive living and social skills, and gives homework assistance and literacy instruction to assist in increasing academic success.

The program taught me a lot about service and being part of a community.
